Dryer Repair in Naples, FL

The dryer runs for an hour and the clothes are still damp. Or the drum is not turning at all. Maybe there is a loud squeal every time it starts, or a thumping that shakes the laundry room. We handle all of these problems daily across Naples. We repair both gas and electric dryers, and most issues come down to heating components, drum support parts, or airflow restrictions. We carry the parts that fail most often — heating elements, thermostats, belts, rollers, igniters — and finish most repairs in a single visit.

Dryer Runs But No Heat

This is the number one dryer complaint. On an electric dryer, the heating element is the most common failure — it is a coiled wire inside a housing that glows red when working. When it burns out, the dryer tumbles but only blows room-temperature air. We test the element with a multimeter and replace it on site. The high-limit thermostat and thermal fuse can also blow due to overheating — usually from a clogged vent — and cut power to the heating circuit.

On a gas dryer, the gas valve coils (also called solenoids) are the most common cause of no heat. These coils open the gas valve to allow gas to reach the igniter and burner. They can fail intermittently — the dryer heats for the first cycle but not subsequent ones. The igniter itself can also fail: it glows orange but never gets hot enough to open the gas valve, or it does not glow at all. The flame sensor monitors igniter temperature and can fail as well.

A clogged dryer vent is a contributing factor in many no-heat calls. When the vent is restricted, the dryer overheats, the thermal fuse or high-limit thermostat blows, and the heating circuit shuts down as a safety measure. We always check the vent when diagnosing a no-heat dryer.

Dryer Takes Too Long to Dry

When the dryer heats but clothes take two or three cycles to dry, the vent system is the first suspect. A dryer vent that is too long, has too many elbows, is crushed behind the machine, or is clogged with lint restricts airflow. The dryer cannot push moist air out efficiently, so clothes stay damp.

In Naples, we see a lot of dryer vents that run through interior walls, attics, or up to roof-mounted termination points. These long runs are more prone to lint buildup. We recommend professional vent cleaning annually.

Beyond the vent, other causes include a worn felt seal around the drum (air leaks reduce efficiency), a failing blower wheel, or a weak heating element that produces heat but not enough. On gas dryers, weak gas valve coils can cause intermittent heating — the dryer heats on and off instead of maintaining consistent temperature.

Drum Not Turning, Loud Noises, and Other Mechanical Issues

If the dryer motor runs but the drum does not turn, the drive belt has broken. The belt wraps around the drum, under an idler pulley, and around the motor pulley. It is a wear item that eventually snaps. This is one of our quickest repairs — typically 20-30 minutes once we have the unit apart.

A loud squeal at startup usually means the idler pulley bearing is worn. It puts tension on the belt and spins at high speed. When the bearing dries out, it squeals. A rhythmic thumping or rumbling sound is often the drum support rollers — small wheels that the drum rides on. When their bearings wear out, they develop flat spots and thump with each rotation.

A high-pitched screech or scraping sound can be the drum glides (also called slides or pads) — small pieces of felt or plastic that the front of the drum rests on. When they wear through, metal-on-metal contact creates the noise and can damage the drum seal.

Dryer Shuts Off Too Soon, No Power, and Safety Concerns

A dryer that shuts off after just a few minutes is usually tripping a safety device. The thermal fuse and high-limit thermostat protect against overheating. If the vent is clogged and the dryer overheats, these devices trip. The thermal fuse is a one-time device — once it blows, it must be replaced. But the underlying cause (usually a clogged vent) must also be addressed, or the new fuse will blow again.

A dryer with no power at all may have a tripped circuit breaker. Electric dryers use a 240-volt circuit, which has a double breaker. Sometimes one side trips, giving partial power — the motor runs but there is no heat. If the breaker is fine, the door switch, thermal fuse, or main control board may be the issue.

A burning smell from a dryer should be taken seriously. It can be lint that has accumulated inside the dryer cabinet (not just the lint trap) or in the vent. It can also be a worn belt slipping or a motor overheating. We recommend turning the dryer off and calling for service if you smell burning.

Brand-Specific Dryer Problems

Samsung: Samsung dryers commonly develop heating element failures, moisture sensor issues (the dryer shuts off thinking clothes are dry when they are not), and drum roller noise. The DV45 and DVE50 series are the most common Samsung dryers we service in Naples.

LG: LG dryers use a direct-drive motor that is generally reliable, but the blower wheel can work loose from the motor shaft, causing a rattling noise and reduced airflow. The thermistor and flow sensor can also fail, leading to heating and drying performance issues. Gas models may need igniter replacement.

Whirlpool / Maytag / Kenmore: These brands share many platforms and parts. The most common repairs are heating element replacement, thermal fuse and high-limit thermostat replacement, drum roller and idler pulley replacement, and drive belt replacement. We carry all of these parts.

GE: GE dryers may develop bearing and drum slide wear, causing squealing and scraping. The timer can fail on mechanical-control models. Gas models may need gas valve coil replacement. The newer GE front-load dryers can develop control board issues.

Electrolux / Frigidaire: Heating element failures, drive belt breakage, and control board issues are the top repairs. The Electrolux stackable units can develop drum bearing noise that requires significant disassembly to access.

Speed Queen: Speed Queen dryers are built tough but may need belt replacement, idler pulley service, or timer replacement on older models. The gas models can develop gas valve coil and igniter failures like any gas dryer.
